What we collect
Account information. Email address, display name, username, and an optional profile photo, provided when you create an account. Sign in with Apple provides your name and email (or Apple's private relay email) at your choice.
Precise location — foreground only. We use your device location while the app is open to (1) show venues, events, and activity near you, and (2) verify you are physically at a venue (within roughly 200 meters) when you check in. We do not track your location in the background. The app requests "While Using the App" permission only.
Check-ins and plans. Venues (and specific spots inside venues, like a hotel's bar) you check into, when, and for how long; plans ("moves") you create or join and your RSVPs.
Content you post. Messages in venue chats and direct messages, feed posts, comments, reactions, and photos or short videos you upload.
Social graph. Friends you add, invitations you send and redeem, and people you block.
Device and usage data. Device identifiers, push notification tokens, app-interaction analytics (which features are used), and crash diagnostics.
What we do NOT collect: contacts uploads, background location, advertising identifiers. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell your personal information.
How we use it
To operate the service: showing who's out and where (per your visibility settings), verifying check-ins, delivering messages and notifications, enforcing blocks, moderating content, preventing abuse and spam, fixing crashes, and understanding which features matter so we can improve them.
Your controls
- Check-in visibility — control who can see your check-ins.
- Message visibility — post to everyone or friends-only in venue chats.
- Blocking — blocking someone hides you from each other everywhere in the app, enforced on our servers.
- Notifications — per-type controls in Settings.
- Location — deny or revoke location in iOS Settings at any time (nearby features and check-in stop working; the rest of the app continues).
Sharing and processors
We share personal data only with service providers that run the app on our behalf, under contract: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Expo (push notification delivery, app updates), Mapbox (map rendering), PostHog (product analytics), Sentry (crash reporting), and Apple (push notifications, sign-in). Venue details (hours, photos, ratings) come from venue sources and Google; that is information about venues, not about you. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
Retention and deletion
Your content and account data are retained while your account is active. Check-ins expire automatically and are not shown as "live" after they end. You can delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account); deletion removes your profile and personal data from the live service, with residual copies in encrypted backups purged on a rolling basis. You can also email us (below) to request deletion or a copy of your data — we honor these requests regardless of where you live.
Age
PriviSocial is for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete it.
Changes and contact
We'll post changes here and note material ones in the app.
